For a sample of Theresa's playing, please listen to the samples below!

Theresa has been playing weddings and other special event gigs since 1993.  She has played hundreds of events throughout the years, both as a solo violin player and in a quartet.  This experience gives Theresa insight in working with brides and grooms to make the music on their special day personal, unique and easy!

In order to make the wedding day run as smoothly as possible, Theresa likes to meet with the bride and groom to discuss the songs the bride and groom would like played on their big day.  No clue what music you want played? No problem! From classical to pop to the oldies, Theresa will work with you to craft a song list for each stage of your wedding, from processional to recessional.

Theresa often attends the wedding rehearsal to get a better understanding of how the wedding flows and to provide sound cues so all parties have a better understanding of when each stage of the wedding takes place.

Depending on what the bride and groom want, besides playing during the wedding, Theresa will start playing 20 to 30 minutes prior to the start of the wedding, so guests can enjoy beautiful violin music while waiting for the wedding to start.  After the recessional, Theresa will also play until all guests have left the ceremony area.

Chelsie B. - Wedding - May 21, 2016

Theresa was amazing! When I first met with her I have no idea what songs I wanted. She gave me a list of songs she could play and advised me what ones would be good for certain areas of the ceremony. I was also able to request a few songs that were not on her playlist. Theresa was very professional and helpful. The music was beautiful, I couldn’t be happier. I highly recommend her for any event!

Sara D. - Private Event - April 12, 2016

Theresa played beautiful classical music at a French wine and food tasting fundraising event in Des Moines. The music added to the overall atmosphere of the event. Many guests commented on how much they enjoyed it. Theresa was quick to respond to my request and a pleasure to work with. I would recommend her to anyone planning a wedding or other event. I hope to hire her again in the future.

Kelly M. - Wedding - September 12, 2015 (Waukee)

Theresa was so extremely helpful to us from the very beginning by suggesting and playing a variety of songs while we were planning. She was responsive to changes we had and was a joy to work with. Very professional but also easy going and helpful. The music was absolutely beautiful and made the ceremony and subsequent cocktail hour very elegant and memorable. We highly recommend her for any event!

Guillermo B. - Wedding - October 17, 2015 (Ames)

At the beginning, we did not request any particular song, thus, based on a some questions, Theresa assembled a list of song that made many people to say how pretty it was. I requested a particular song a week prior to the ceremony, which she performed despite the short notice and she did it in the exact moment we were able to listen to it. An extra remark is that she always replied my messages really fast.

Kristi K. - Wedding - October 18, 2014

Theresa made our ceremony music absolutely the way I envisioned. She took the guesswork out of picking the perfect songs and performed beautifully on our wedding day. I highly recommend her to anyone wanting their ceremony music to be something memorable and special.

SonnLeit Violin Studio offers private violin lessons and solo violin music for weddings from violinist Theresa Sonnleitner.

Prior to moving to West Des Moines, Theresa earned a BM in violin performance from the University of Iowa and taught violin lessons in Williamsburg for three years.  For the past year, Theresa has been teaching violin students and group classes at the Earlham Music Academy.  Besides teaching group classes, Theresa has coached chamber groups in Ames and Iowa City.

Theresa started playing violin at the age of 4 with Paul Manulik at the then newly opened Cedar Rapids Symphony School.  At age 10, Theresa began studying with Doris Preucil, founder of the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City, Iowa.  That year, Theresa traveled to South Korea to attend the Suzuki National Convention as a soloist and as a part of the Preucil School's Gansdorf Quartet.  Besides South Korea, Theresa has performed around the world, traveling to England, Germany, Austria, and Italy, soloed at the Suzuki National Convention in Japan and played for Shinichi Suzuki in his home.  She also attended many music camps in the States. Recently, Theresa traveled to China where China's First Lady attended one of the orchestra's concerts.

In Iowa, Theresa soloed with the Cedar Rapids Symphony (now Orchestra Iowa) multiple times and soloed with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra.  She was also a member of the Cedar Rapids Symphony.

SonnLeit Violin Studio provides violin lessons from Suzuki raised and trained violinist Theresa Sonnleitner.

Theresa started playing violin when she was 4, and pursued violin throughout high school, learning from Doris Preucil at the Preucil School of Music.  After receiving a BM in violin performance from the University of Iowa, Theresa completed Every Child Can and participated in Suzuki teacher training.  While attending law school, Theresa taught violin in Williamsburg.

For the past year Theresa has been teaching violin lessons at the Countryside Music Academy.  Most of her students are between Suzuki books 1 and 3. Theresa believes a good foundation is essential to a successful and satisfying violin playing experience. A good foundation includes learning proper technique and understanding how notes and rhythms work together.  Theresa strives to create a warm and supportive environment by teaching each student in a way that makes the most sense to them.

Theresa provides weekly 30 minute lessons.  Price per lesson is $20.00.

What is the Suzuki Method? About 50 years ago, Shinichi Suzuki developed a method of learning music that mimicked the natural way a child learns language from a parent. Listening to music, repetition, and encouragement from both the teacher and the parent are some of the cornerstones of the Suzuki Method.  Children learn to read music after learning the basic concepts of playing violin, similar to how children learn how to read a book after they have a good background in their language.  Parents are a very important part of the process and serve as the home teacher.
